The Laguna 69 Trek is one of the most famous and breathtaking day hikes in the Cordillera Blanca. Located at 4,600 meters, this dazzling turquoise lagoon sits at the foot of the majestic Chacraraju Mountain (6,108 m) and offers some of the most spectacular views in the Peruvian Andes.
The adventure begins early in the morning from Huaraz, with a scenic drive through the Llanganuco Valley, passing by the beautiful Chinancocha and Orconcocha lagoons. The hike itself takes about 5–6 hours round trip, crossing Andean meadows, waterfalls, and snow-capped peaks before reaching the stunning Laguna 69, a true gem of the Huascarán National Park.
Perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure travelers, this trek is a must-do experience in Huaraz — a journey that rewards every effort with unforgettable Andean beauty.
TIP:
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Huaraz through the Callejón de Huaylas, heading toward the entrance of the Llaca Valley. The road gradually ascends through eucalyptus forests and ancient glacial terrain, offering panoramic views of surrounding peaks and deep Andean valleys.
Upon entering the Huascarán National Park, the landscape transforms into a dramatic high-altitude environment with rocky cliffs, small waterfalls, and pristine alpine vegetation. The drive continues up to the Llaca Refuge, from where it is possible to take a short hike along the edge of Laguna Llaca to admire the lagoon’s turquoise waters and the spectacular ice walls of Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca towering above.
This peaceful setting is perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or observing Andean wildlife such as vizcachas and wild birds. After enjoying the tranquility and breathtaking mountain views, visitors return along the same scenic route back to Huaraz.
The Laguna Llaca Tour is a wonderful short excursion for those who want to experience the beauty of the Cordillera Blanca without a demanding hike, offering serenity, accessibility, and unforgettable landscapes.
