TIP:

  • Due to the high altitude of the Laguna Llaca hike, we strongly recommend doing proper acclimatization before this tour, especially if you have just arrived in Huaraz.

  • Laguna Llaca is located at approximately 4,450 m / 14,600 ft, surrounded by impressive glaciers and peaks of the Cordillera Blanca.

Itinerary

Full Day

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Huaraz through the Callejón de Huaylas, heading toward the entrance of the Llaca Valley. The road gradually ascends through eucalyptus forests and ancient glacial terrain, offering panoramic views of surrounding peaks and deep Andean valleys.

Upon entering the Huascarán National Park, the landscape transforms into a dramatic high-altitude environment with rocky cliffs, small waterfalls, and pristine alpine vegetation. The drive continues up to the Llaca Refuge, from where it is possible to take a short hike along the edge of Laguna Llaca to admire the lagoon’s turquoise waters and the spectacular ice walls of Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca towering above.

This peaceful setting is perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or observing Andean wildlife such as vizcachas and wild birds. After enjoying the tranquility and breathtaking mountain views, visitors return along the same scenic route back to Huaraz.
