We depart from Huaraz at 7:00 am and first drive to the village of Chiquián, enjoying distant views of the impressive Huayhuash mountain range. From Chiquián, we descend into an environment of cacti and scrubland and continue to the village of Llamac (3300m), arriving around 11:00 am where we have lunch. We then continue past the hamlet of Pocpa and then along a new road between Llamac and Cuartelhuain. Today will be a short and relaxing hike; it is also an extremely valuable additional acclimatization day before crossing our first high pass tomorrow. We camp at Rondoy (4200m).
