The journey begins with a scenic drive from Huaraz toward the Llaca Valley, following a winding mountain road that climbs through eucalyptus forests and ancient glacial terrain. Along the way, the views of the Cordillera Blanca become increasingly dramatic, with snow-capped peaks rising above deep valleys.
The hike starts near the Llaca Refuge, where the trail ascends gradually through rocky slopes and alpine meadows dotted with native plants. As the path climbs higher, hikers are surrounded by stunning views of Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca, two of the most iconic peaks in the region. The sound of melting glaciers and mountain streams accompanies the journey, creating a serene and immersive Andean atmosphere.
Upon reaching Laguna Rocotuyoc, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking sight — a deep turquoise lagoon reflecting the icy faces of nearby glaciers.
